Höss, Dagmar

Text, the female body and clothing are recurring elements in my photographic work series and installations. In the series “It’s Complicated”, which began in New York in 2019, text fragments are the starting point for more than forty embroidered objects and the resulting photographs of fragmented foreign objects. In the series of works "body matrix" developed in 2022, I break up the photographic image surfaces with cross-stitch embroidery and also play with stereotypical attributions. Historically speaking, especially in the 19th century, the technique of embroidery was an activity reserved for noble, middle-class women and symbolized domesticity, diligence and decency.
