Ortner-Moosbrugger, Michaela

I was recently asked what the forest means to me. My answer was very simple: the forest is my everything.
It is the place of peace and quiet for me, which is then broken up by the loud chirping of birds. It is the place full of life, in which a coexistence of the most diverse plants and animals in harmony forms its own microcosm. Even death is a living part of it. It's the place I go to to recharge my batteries and feel my soul, the place where I switch off my head and feel. It is a place of abundance and simplicity, of truth, of wilderness.
The forest is my teacher. He teaches me to understand light and shadow, he teaches me to observe and become still, he gives me answers to many questions, he makes the cycles of nature, of life, understandable to me. He shows me how strong life is and how healing nature is.
The untouched, wild and colorful forests that I discover on forays through the Bregenzerwald off the beaten track are my inspiration. The forests, which are perfection and beauty for me, have become a part of me, are home for me.
I always carry this home with me, even in Berlin's big city life, like a valuable treasure that then finds its way onto paper. The spring light gives the forest a completely different mood than the autumn fog. The snow makes the forest seem almost empty and in summer the full abundance is visible in the form of leaves, ferns, moss and animals.
Each of these forest scenes has its own story, its own effect, its own essence. The forest drawings are snapshots that try to reflect these moods.
It is the task of the artist to take in what is seen and felt, to let it sink in and to reproduce it in his own language. And my language is reduced. Everything comes from one colour.
It is the deep black ink and the clear, light water that combine or contrast to form light and shadow. And through this play of black and white, of light and shadow, everything can come into being, an entire forest can shine.
Through the drawings I would like to invite you to immerse yourself completely in these forests, to see them, to feel them and to linger there. The forests come to the viewer and, I hope, give me the peace and confidence that I can feel through them.
